 Twins Drop Series Finale to Tigers 7-2 as Pitching Control Falters

The Minnesota Twins suffered a tough 7-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park, losing the three-game series.
The game began after a 100-minute rain delay, but the real trouble for Minnesota was a combination of struggling pitching control and a stagnant offense. The loss pushes the Twins' record down to 69-77 as their late-season slide continues.
Pitching Struggles & Early Deficit
Twins starter Zebby Matthews had his shortest outing of the season, lasting only 2.1 innings. He struggled heavily with command, giving up 5 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 batters on 58 pitches.
The wild zone plagued the entire Twins pitching staff throughout the day. Minnesota pitchers combined to issue 8 total walks to a young Detroit lineup. The Tigers capitalized on the free passes, turning four of those walks directly into runs without needing heavy hit production.
Back-to-Back Homers Provide Only Spark
The Twins' offense managed just 5 hits the entire game. Their only true sign of life came in the top of the fourth inning off Tigers starter Keider Montero:
  • Kody Clemens launched an opposite-field solo home run, his team-high 26th of the year.
  • Josh Bell immediately followed him, snapping an 0-for-12 slump with a solo shot of his own to left field.
The back-to-back blasts briefly cut Detroit's lead to 5-2, but the Twins could not build any further momentum against the Tigers' bullpen. Detroit added insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings to seal the 7-2 finale.

The Twins are off on Thursday before returning home to Target Field for a crucial three-game weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians starting Friday.
