Breaking News near North Minneapolis: In Brooklyn Center Mega‑Raid: 23 Arrested in Multi‑Agency Crackdown on Trafficking and Violent Crime

 On September 9, 2026, a massive, multi-agency law enforcement operation targeted four hotels in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals following a year-long investigation into suspected human trafficking, narcoticsdistribution, and firearms offenses.

The operation involved more than 250 personnel executing 31 court-authorized search warrants simultaneously at around 4:30 AM. It brought together local police departments, county sheriff's offices, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the FBI, the DEA, and the U.S. Secret Service.
The Targeted Locations
The early morning raids focused heavily on two neighboring properties that have historically generated the most emergency calls in the city, along with two other nearby lodging facilities:
  • The Super 8 (Over 1,300 service calls since January 2025)
  • The Travelodge (Nearly 975 service calls since January 2025)
  • The Baymont
  • Suburban Studios
According to Brooklyn Center Police Chief Garett Flesland, between January 2025 and August 2026, the Super 8 and Travelodge properties alone accounted for 246 arrests, 53 violent crime calls (including shootings and sexual assaults), and over 100 reported drug overdoses—representing roughly 24% of all overdoses in Brooklyn Center.
Evidence Recovered & Allegations
Law enforcement personnel cleared out the properties, using Metro Transit buses as temporary shelters for displaced long-term guests who were not targets of the sting. In the initial sweep, tactical teams recovered:
  • 7 firearms
  • 1.5 pounds of illicit drugs
  • $9,000 in cash
The 23 individuals were taken into custody on preliminary probable cause grounds, which include sex trafficking, promotion of prostitution, drug manufacturing, drug possession, and illegal possession of firearms by prohibited persons. Officials emphasized that these are initial arrest grounds and not the final list of filed criminal charges.
Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt emphasized that while the raid was about criminal accountability, it was equally focused on recovering and supporting the victims trapped at the center of the trafficking operation.
