Cat dispute killer

 A Monticello man, Stahlberg has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after allegedly shooting his sister's boyfriend, Daniel Lawrence Ferdelman, following a dispute over a cat.

According to criminal complaints reported by KSTP News and other local outlets, the incident unfolded early on September 3, 2026, at a shared residence in Monticello, Minnesota. 

Key Details of the Incident:

• The Confrontation: The victim, 57-year-old Daniel Ferdelman, called his girlfriend while she was at work to report that an intoxicated Stahlberg had barricaded himself in a room with the household's new cat. A physical altercation ensued when Stahlberg later barged into Ferdelman's bedroom. 
• The Discovery: The girlfriend returned home later that morning to find Ferdelman unresponsive in bed. A medical examiner later confirmed he died from a shotgun wound to the chest. 
• The Arrest: Suspecting Stahlberg might be traveling to Remer, Minnesota, to harm their father, law enforcement tracked his Toyota Tundra and arrested him in Cass County hours later. A loaded shotgun was recovered from the front of his vehicle. 

Stahlberg is currently being held on a $1 million bail, with his first court appearance scheduled for September 21, 2026.
